Storage Tips | Prohibited Items
.

What is Secured Storage? It is a ‘do it yourself’ storage unit, typically a standard garage size of 18 m2 (6 x 3 m).

Is it secure and private? We offer secure brick units with a seamless roof and a single access point through a roller shutter door. It is completely private – no one can see in or have access to your unit.

Does Secured Storage have access to my unit? No we do not. You provide your own lock, or if you so choose, we have locks for sale on the premises. You are the only person with access to your unit.

How safe and secure is it? There are guards on duty 24/7. The premises are surrounded by a 1.8 metre high brick wall topped with an electric fence. There is an electric gate for access into the premises. The property is covered by security lighting as well as surveillance cameras.

How do I get access to my unit? We use G-Remote to open the gate. You can download the App from Google Play for Android phones and for IOS at the App Store. The emergency number will be supplied once a lease agreement has been signed.

Do I have access 24/7? Yes, the property is open 24/7 for access to your unit. However, office hours are from Monday – Friday, 08h00 – 16h30.

What may I store in my unit? You may store just about anything, but nothing flammable, illegal, combustible, or anything that may endanger other’s property (see non-permissible items). You may fit racks or shelves to the walls with our permission.

Do you require a deposit? Yes, we take one month's refundable deposit.

What is the minimum period you may hire for? The minimum period of hire is one month.

How much notice needs to be given when I move out? We require one month notice before you move out.

How do I make a monthly storage payment? You can pay in person, through an electronic funds transfer or a bank deposit. You may also sign up to have the payment automatically deducted every month via a credit/debit card.

How easy is access? Vehicles up to the size of furniture trucks have easy access to the units. The entire area is paved.

What about insurance? You must provide your own insurance cover.

Will my vehicle, boat or caravan fit into the unit? The majority of vehicles would fit into our units which are the size of a standard 6 x 3 m garage with a roller door size of at least 2.1 m high x 2.4 m wide. Caravans and large boats would usually be stored under one of our carports or in open parking.

Storage Tips
  • Plan your storage space. Place those items that you may need to access often in the front, close to the door.
  • Stack heavier boxes on the bottom and lighter boxes on the top.
  • Avoid placing sharp or heavy objects on top of upholstered furniture.
  • If you stand mattresses on their side, prop them up so they stand straight to avoid them bending out of shape.
  • Fill boxes to capacity, partially full or bulging boxes may tip or collapse
Make sure all appliances are clean and dry before storage.
  • Wedge refrigerator and freezer doors ajar to help combat mould.
  • Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped, marked fragile and stacked on end, not flat.
  • When placing photo albums, books or magazines in boxes, alternate placing the spine to the left or right.
  • Sealing photos in airtight plastic bags can prevent exposure to moisture.
DVDs, CDs, video tapes and other media should be packed airtight heavy duty bags or containers.
